Process-Southport Stage #3

So I have been playing with a style from the romantic period of late 1800’s. This is different for me. I like how this turned out.

I did decide after to change up the sky and the total feel of this piece and I am glad to have done so. I want to play around and away from what I am used to doing. Stretch my creative arm so to speak. This is still acrylic and really just the underpainting.

I am laying down the layers for my next piece. This is from a photo I took while visiting my friend in Southport Newfoundland. So far I am thinking of a dramatic sky like the last one I painted. This could change as I work along.

Down Below

I recently went back to my earlier themes of boats and wharves and abandoned houses.

Process final

After looking at my painting throughout the last day I saw some things I wanted to change. I think I am finally happy with it. Here  is the full series. I can’t say I am finished yet though.

I am full of paint and the studio is a mess.

I feel this is done but it is possible after seeing it over the next 24 hours I may see something I want to change.

 

Process 2

So Now I have worked up the sky. I decided to go with Vandyke brown and adding medium, a little white and some cadmium yellow pale hue. This way I can add the drama and work with that to bring up the rest of the painting. Everything but the sky is still in acrylic.

 

Process #1, Yes done at last

I thought I was done with this piece. Still the background was bothering me. Too vivid and bright. I didn’t feel the mood I like to portray in my work. I spoke to an artist friend and asked his opinion.

Darken the back, like you do with the others. I had considered this all too briefly a few days before. I took his advice and as soon as I started to work on it I knew it was right and my piece would tie up for me.

So. This is it and it’s at the gallery. Thanks Victoria for my title, “Carcass”

Process #1 Finis.

Played with colour on the rocks. I darkened the area on the hills near the rocks in order to make the depth greater. This is the final piece.
